Wanhua district is mostly known for the Longshan temple. Taipei’s oldest district is full of sights worth visiting. Longshan or Quingshui temples, Bopiliao street, famous street markets are places to see in the previously rich economic area that was also formerly known (and most likely still active) red light district.
Longshan Temple (Lungshuan Temple) is the top religious and cultural site to visit. Free to access, the place of worship is the main attraction of the area. Take the MRT red line to Longshan Temple station, continue on the Guanzhou street and then to Lane 278, Kangding road and then straight to Lane 173, Kangding road – Bopiliao street, which is a hidden gem where you can admire the original look and feel of old Taipei. Finish the journey at Ximen station (Ximending area) where you can visit the Red House Theater with a small market inside and the all-day Ximen market.
Other places to visit are the Snake Alley night market or the Huaxi street night market or any night market in the area. Those are a staple of Taiwanese culture, so don’t miss to visit one of them while being in Taipei.
