Cologne, with its 160 metres high cathedral, is one of the larges and oldest cities in Germany with a population of more than one million. 42 museums, 120 galleries and an extremely animated theatre scene makes Cologne a cultural centre of Germany. The streets of the historic old town are always full of locals and tourists alike and create a pleasant atmosphere for the sightseeing.

Although Cologne is a lively city on a flat area spreading out on the western bank of the Rhine river, there are no parks downtown. The Rhein gardens, probably the nicest relaxation zone in calm surroundings, can be found at the eastern side of the river between the Deutzer- and the Hohenzoller bridges. From there, you can take a boat trip to see a piece of country as seen from the river view.

The Cologne Zoo is definitely a place to visit as well and if you are looking for a place to have fun, enjoy the Phantasialand amusement park, south of the city centre, which offers attractions for children of all ages.

All transportation - buses, U-Bahn and S-Bahn are available and operating with German punctuality. The city airport, called COLOGNA/BONN, is located to the east, approximately 10 km (6 miles) from the city centre.
