Glasgow, the largest city of Scotland, is well known as cultural, modern inventions, art and industrial centre, as well as a city, where almost all religions meet. You will find there four Christian cathedrals (Glasgow Catedral, St. Andrew's Cathedral, Our Lady and St. Luke), the largest mosque in Scotland (along with another 12 mosques holding 30,000 Muslims in the city) and 7 synagogues. The modern metropolis stretches across the River Clyde with local theatres, galleries (free entry) and concert halls being rated among the world's top. This complements historical architecture and modern design, creating a truly unique mix that appeals to many visitors.
Start your journey at George Square and the City Hall, the heart of Glasgow and the nearby Cathedral. Visit St. Mung’s Museum that offers insights into the cultures of various world religions, and across the street look for the oldest house in Glasgow, Provand's Lordship.
Spend some time relaxing in the Botanic Gardens and the Kibble Palace or at the Glasgow Green with a playground located in the corner between Greendyke and Saltmarket streets. Visit the very baby friendly national Museum of Rural life, located South of the city, where you can explore life on a working farm.
In case of rainy weather, visit one of the indoor playrooms, such as Jurassic Jungle, Garscube Playrooms or Whale of a Time indoor playroom. Glasgow Science Centre is definitely worth visiting if you travel with older kids.
When exploring the city, it is recommended to use public transport (metro or bus) rather than driving around by car. All nearby international airports (Glasgow airport and Edinburgh airport) are easily accessible by public transport - bus. There is a direct rail from Prestwick airport to the Central Station.
