Mondsee, a nice, small town you will be likely to pass when driving from Munich to Vienna. It is located close to the A1 highway, sitting on the northern corner of the Mondsee lake and the history of this town dates back to the age of the Roman Empire. Walk through the tiny historical centre and visit St. Michael’s basilica, which is where the wedding scene from the movie The Sound of Music was filmed.

Mondsee is also perfect for family holidays. You can use it as a base for various hikes, day trips to Salzburg, the Abarena free time park, the Fairytale walk (Unterach am Attersee) or to the famous Salzkammergut (salt mines). During summer the Mondsee lake is perfect for bathing fun and sport activities. The nearby Irrsee lake is protected by nature conservation laws and is therefore ideal for some relaxtion.

There are various activities and festivals throughout the year. We recommend the Seefest festival in early August. Despite being designed mostly for adults, this festival also offers great fun for children of all ages during the weekend, and a taste of local music and cuisine for the parents.
