Vaduz

Visiting the charming Vaduz, capital of Liechtenstein, one of the tiniest countries (principality) in Europe, promises many princely moments. The city itself is so tiny, that you will be able to stroll around it within half an hour. It is however still worth hopping onto the Vaduz City Train, which leaves daily from the Bus station at 1 pm and 4:30 pm...

Visiting the charming Vaduz, capital of Liechtenstein, one of the tiniest countries (principality) in Europe, promises many princely moments. The city itself is so tiny, that you will be able to stroll around it within half an hour. It is however still worth hopping onto the Vaduz City Train, which leaves daily from the Bus station at 1 pm and 4:30 pm (starting in April), taking approx. 30 minutes, costing 10.5 CHF for adults and 5 CHF for children. If you decide to hike up to the castle, be prepared for a sandy road and a steep incline.

Public restrooms do not include a changing room, not even a changing table. The arrival is easiest by car, as the outside parking lot is merely 100 metres from the Lichtenstein information centre. If arriving by plane it is best to either fly to Zurich and then take a train (1.5 hours) or fly to Munich and either use a train or rent a car (2 hours).

On the whole, Vaduz is a nice stop when traveling from Munich to Italy via Switzerland, without the detour to Zurich, Luzern or the closest UNESCO city St. Gallen. If you wish to spend more time in the neighbourhood, drive up to Malbun village either for skiing in winter or for a very nice and very easy hike in summer.
