Skansen, opened in 1891, is the world’s oldest open-air museum and it is located in Stockholm on the Djurgården island. It is a wonderful place to visit with your children, young or old. It displays all of Sweden through houses and farmsteads, giving you an impression of life in the country through out five centuries. You can explore the area on your own or take part in a guided tour or an educational tour. The Stockholm Zoo, which is home to farm animals and animals native to Scandinavia, and the Skansen Aquarium are also located in Skansen. If you really want to dive into Swedish traditions it is a good idea to visit Skansen during one of its many festivals. Skansen was created with children in mind with playgrounds on the premises and changing tables in all washrooms.
The opening hours are daily from 10:00 – 16:00. Children under the age of 4 enter free of charge. The entrance fee for children aged 4 – 15 years is 60 SEK, and for adults 125 SEK. You can get to Skansen by bus or tram.
